What to drill after a loss
How to pick one drill and a rep count from the game you just lost, instead of reviewing everything.
After a loss, the useful work is the smallest drill that would have changed the result. Everything else can wait.
If you left a piece unprotected, drill loose pieces. Ten positions, then the same ten again. Do not open an endgame chapter because the ending was also bad. The piece was already gone.
If you missed a fork or a pin, drill that motif for one short set. Twelve puzzles. Write the square you should have looked at. Next time, look there first.
If you knew the tactic and still played the wrong move, the leak is the check before you move, not a new theme. Spend the session on the three questions, using the position from the game.
One loss, one drill, one number of reps. When that number is clean, you are done for the day. A second topic splits the memory and neither one sticks.
